Capturing the ideal image of your pet is an essential step in creating a personalized pet portrait. As an artist, I dedicate countless hours to studying your photo as I meticulously hand-draw your portrait. Every detail matters—from the way the light plays on their face and fur to the unique colors of their coat and eyes. This attention to detail allows me to truly convey the spirit of your beloved animal. A simple guideline to remember is: "The better the photo, the better the portrait." Here are some helpful tips for providing the best images.

  • High-quality original images are ideal - The sharper and higher the resolution of your image, the more intricate details I can incorporate into your drawing. Blurry images will only lead to indistinct and unclear portraits, as clarity is crucial. Screenshots or photos shared through apps tend to diminish the image quality. The most effective way to share photos is through email.

  • Optimal lighting - Natural light is your best friend; aim to take photos outdoors on a cloudy day. Artificial lighting or bright sunlight can create harsh shadows and highlights that don’t translate well onto paper. Remember to disable your camera's flash for the best results.

  • Ideal perspective - Capture your pet at their eye level instead of from above or below, as this can lead to unflattering and distorted images.

  • Variety of photos - I typically rely on one primary photo for reference, but providing a variety of images in different lighting and poses is incredibly helpful. This allows me to capture the true essence of your pet's personality. I also enjoy learning about your pets' unique traits and stories, as they greatly influence the portrait I create.

By following these suggestions, you’ll ensure a beautifully detailed portrait. However, I understand that for memorial portraits, where your pet has sadly passed, photo options may be limited. In such cases, I’m more than willing to work with the images you have and strive to create the finest drawing possible.

If you're uncertain about the suitability of your images, don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm here to provide guidance on how to take better photographs and to assess whether they work well for drawing.
